Essence Magazine has tapped non-other than the original supermodel,
Naomi Campbel to mark it’s 50th Anniversary Issue. The latest issue celebrates the magazine’s existence as a pillar in the Black community for five decades. According to the media outfit, it was a major challenge to shoot for the cover spread due to the fact that everyone is quarantined at home.
For this reason, Naomi took matters into her hands. She was her own hairstylist, her makeup artist and in a situation where there was no traditional photoshoot, she also pulled out her iPhone to make the most of its camera, hence the beautiful shoot.
Naomi also explained that the experience was quite unusual for her, having been the one who’s always surrounded or pampered by a slew of beauty artists. “It was a very special honor and unusual experience for me to be able to shoot and style my own cover for ESSENCE’s 50th-anniversary issue,” Campbell said. “While it was a sad reminder for me of all the people in media and production who are not able to work due to the coronavirus, it also brought me hope and encouragement to know that our people and our infrastructures are resilient.”
The cover comes with photos of the supermodel showing off her coolness. She’s wearing a long white dress on the main cover, a gorgeous mini length African prints dress that won a spot on our wishlist, and photo where she’s decked out in African-inspired headwrap.
